Mr. Izard’s Compliments to Dr. Franklin, and returns him the Newspapers he was so obliging as to send him.
Mr. Izard encloses the Gazette Extraordinary, which gives an account of the evacuation of Mud Island, and Red Bank.8 Howe’s Letter gives us reason to expect news of very great importance soon.

Endorsed: Mr Izard’s Madnesses9
8. The account in the London Gaz. of Jan. 9 was promptly reprinted by other newspapers, for example the Public Advertiser of the 10th. At long last Howe’s supply line by way of the Delaware was open.
9. Doubtless BF’s comment on a packet of letters containing Izard’s incessant criticisms; this harmless one happened to be the first.
