General Orders

Head Quarters, Cambridge, April 2nd 1776.

Parole Hartford.Countersign Kingsbridge.

General Ward to send a Regiment to morrow morning, at ten OClock, out of Boston, to relieve Col: Learnards regiment upon Dorchester Heights—Col. Learnard’s Regiment to prepare to march on Thursday morning.1

1. Col. Ebenezer Learned’s regiment was to march for New York as part of Gen. Joseph Spencer’s brigade on Thursday 4 April (see General Orders, 31 Mar. 1776). Gen. Horatio Gates wrote to Ward on this date on behalf of GW, ordering him to send another regiment from Boston to garrison the forts on Bunker and Breed’s hills and a subaltern’s guard to relieve Col. Samuel Holding Parson’s guard at the provision store in Medfield, Mass. (MHi: Ward Papers). Parson’s regiment was also to march with Spencer’s brigade on 4 April.
