The enclosure, which is dated March 27, 1784, and is entitled “Dismission for Captain Murarius with the rank of Major …,” is a statement by Frederic, Landgrave of Hesse, that Murarius had been “Nineteen Years in our Military Service” and had resigned with the rank of major (copy, Hamilton Papers, Library of Congress).
