1. On Oct. 24, a Thursday, Jay dined with BF at Passy and was surprised to find Rayneval there. (Afterwards BF explained to him that Rayneval had sent word that he would dine at Passy that day and would be glad to meet Jay there as well.) Rayneval asked them about their negotiations with Oswald, particularly on the questions of the Canadian border and the fisheries, and contested the American demands: Jay’s diary entry of Oct. 24, in Morris, Jay: Peace, pp. 449–50.
