To Thomas Jefferson from Colborn Barrell, 22 September 1788
From Colborn Barrell
London, 22 Sep. 1788. Enclosure has lain on his hands many months because Joseph Barrell, Jr., to whom it was addressed, was unexpectedly detained at Lisbon; his brother, Joseph Barrell of Boston, has lately told him to “break his Sons Enclosure and forward two small tokens of his respect to the Marquiss de la Fayette and your self.”
RC (MHi); 2 p.; endorsed. Recorded in SJL as received 2 Feb. 1789. Enclosures: (1) Barrell to TJ, 24 Nov. 1787, with its accompanying medal. (2) A similar letter to Lafayette, also with medal (not found).
