From Alexander Hamilton to Ann Pemberton, [2 December 1791]
To Ann Pemberton
[Philadelphia, December 2, 1791]
Mr. Hamilton presents his respects to Mrs. Pemberton—having no copy of the agreement respecting the hire of the house & lot in use of the Treasury Department1 he will be much obliged to her for one. If not convenient to furnish a copy & she will please to send the original it will be copied & returned.

1. During the period when H was Secretary of the Treasury and the Treasury Department was in Philadelphia (October, 1790, through January, 1795) the Treasury Department’s main office was at 100 Chestnut Street. During the same years Mrs. Ann Pemberton, a widow, owned an adjoining house at 102 Chestnut Street.
The Treasury Department also rented two houses on Chestnut Street from a Mrs. McIntire for six hundred dollars per year.
