Sir,
Being much in Want of the Money I lent you, and supposing the Bills you expected were arrived, I wrote to you lately requesting Payment. But it is not my Intention or Desire to press or importune you, if you have it not in your Power. I should be glad however to hear from you which I have not since I propos’d your giving me Bills on America.4

4. BF had loaned Johonnot money on a number of occasions, among them April 23 and Sept. 15, 1781: Account XVII (XXVI, 3). In September BF had given him the option of repaying 100 louis with bills drawn on America: XXXV, 490, 490–1; and see BF to Johonnot, Feb. 15.
