Sir,
At the particular request of the Honble Danl Dulany Esqr., I address this Letter to you—a certain Mr Plowman of Baltimore has, unfortunately, had his Vessel siezd by the Boston Frigate, if it should be condemnd, I have to request the favour of you to facilitate the purchase of it & render any Service you can in behalf of the proprietor1—I have no great right to take this Liberty, but you will be ⟨good⟩ enough, I hope, to excuse the freedom taken by Sir Yr Most Obedt Servt

1. The Maryland Gazette (Annapolis) on 26 Sept. 1771 carried the following news item: “A Snow belonging to Baltimore, is seized below Smith’s-Point [Northumberland County, Va.] by the Boston’s Tender.” The Boston was a British man-of-war serving three years on station in American waters. Jonathan Plowman was a merchant and justice of the peace in Baltimore. On the preceding night GW dined with Daniel Dulany the Younger’s brother Lloyd Dulany (see , 3:55).
