Sir,

If the Sails & Rigging which I be spoke for Mr John West, are not already come of, be so good as to dispatch them by the first Vessel bound to Alexandria1—Captn Olife says he shall be up again immediately.2 I am Sir Yr Most Hble Servt

Neil Jamieson, a partner in the Glasgow firm of John Glassford & Co., had a store in Norfolk until he fled from Virginia to New York during the Revolution.

1. In his account with John West, Jr., GW notes that in August 1771 West owed him for “An Anchor for yr Brig Fairfax, cost me at Norfolk pr Jas Campbells acct . . . £6.10.7½” and that on 2 Nov. 1771 West owed an additional £62.19.3 for “Cash paid Captn Neil Jameison pr Glassfords Rect for the Sails & Rig[gin]g of your Schooner” (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 135, 346).

2. Capt. John Oliffe of Norfolk sailed frequently from Virginia to the West Indies.
