Mr. Fox’s most respectful compliments wait upon Dr. Franklin—takes the Liberty of informing him that he leaves Paris for Nantes on Thursday, and will do himself the honor of waiting upon him on the morning of that day to take his leave, & to request to be favored with his Commands for America, for which place he intends to embark in the Hannibal Capt Cunningham.3

2. Fox arrived in Nantes on May 13: George Fox to WTF, May 15, 1783 (APS). If he left Paris, as he says below, on the previous Thursday (May 8), then the present letter was written on May 5.
3. BF entrusted to Fox the Libertas Americana medals intended for Congress; see the annotation of BF to Livingston, April 15, above. Because the Hannibal was delayed, Fox took passage on the Nancy, Capt. Robert Shewell, which left Lorient in mid-June and sailed to Philadelphia by way of Lisbon: Fox to WTF, June 5 and 30, and Oct. 1, 1783 (APS); Pa. Gaz., Feb. 5, 1783.
