1. BF was not at home when he called. WTF penned an apology below Hermelin’s note: “M. Franklin est bien faché d’etre obligé d’aller ce Matin a Paris pour Affaire,—Il a l’honneur de souhaiter un bon Voyage a M. le Baron.” WTF later added, “This Baron is the Gentleman introduced by the Swedish Ambassador.” At some time Hermelin wrote his name on the address sheet of Amelia Barry’s Sept. 20 letter, above.
