I had the honor of receiving Your letter of this date.1
Agreeably thereto I inclose my Bill on Findlay Bannatyne & Co. London at 30 d[a]ys for Ten pounds Sterling which at 33⅓ ⅌ Ct exchange, amounts to £13.6.8 Curry.2 With great respect I am Sir Your Mo. Obedt st

William Wilson (died c.1823), who dined at Mount Vernon on 14 Nov., was a merchant in Alexandria in business with his brother James.

Wilson’s enclosed bill dated at Alexandria, 10 Nov., and signed by him, reads: “Exchange for £10 Stg Thirty Days after sight of this my fourth of exchange (first, second, and third of the same tenor and date not paid) pay to George Washington Esqr. on order, the sum of Ten pounds Sterling for Value here received, and place it to account of us per advice To Messrs Findlay Bannatyne & Co. London” (DLC:GW). On 10 Nov. GW entered in his Day Book the payment of $44.45 to William Wilson with “a check on the Bank of Alexa. for a Bill on London—drawn on Messrs Findley Bannalym & Co. for £10. Ex[change] 33⅓” ().
