Martha Washington’s grandchildren Eleanor Parke and George Washington Custis were receiving instruction from dancing master James Robardet. “Lately from Europe, but last from New-York,” Robardet offered classes in his studio or by appointment to “those Ladies or Gentlemen who wish to be instructed at their own houses” ( , 10:321; Philadelphia American Daily Advertiser, 20 Jan.).
