Treasury Department, Revenue Office, December 11, 1794. Requests that “a Warrt. may issue in favor of Messrs. Gurney & Smith Naval Agents2 for the sum of five thousd. one hundred Dollars as a further paymt. on a/count.…”3

1. For information concerning the naval armament, see Henry Knox to H, April 21, 1794.

2. Francis Gurney and Daniel Smith were the naval agents in Philadelphia in charge of building frigates. See Knox to H, third letter of July 9, 1794.

3. On December 15, 1794, Warrant No. 4322 for $5,100 was issued to Gurney and Smith (D, RG 217, Miscellaneous Treasury Accounts, 1790–1894, Account No. 7403, National Archives).
