Two sentences from this unlocated letter are quoted in the Pennsylvania Assembly’s reply, Sept. 29, 1755, to Governor Morris’ charge, September 24, that the Assembly had done little to support Braddock’s expedition (see below, p. 209).

5. Sir Peter Halkett (c. 1695–1755), member of Parliament, 1734–41; colonel of the 44th regiment since 1751, was killed at the Battle of the Monongahela, July 9, as was his son James, a lieutenant in his father’s regiment. Shirley Corres., II, 99 n.
