1. Jacob Morton (1761–1836), a graduate of the College of New Jersey and a New York City lawyer, held a number of public positions throughout his career, including alderman, city comptroller, and clerk of the Common Council of the City of New York, 1809–36. He served in the state militia, rising to the rank of major general in 1815 (Harrison, Princetonians, 1776–1783, 236–39).
