§ From Albert Gallatin
1 February 1811, Treasury Department. Encloses a copy of the departmental correspondence respecting the act to provide for a survey of the coasts of the U.S.1 Reports that Mr. Hassler, “who has been designated to proceed to England in order to have the necessary instruments executed under his immediate care,” is still willing to perform the service.

Enclosures (67 pp.) are copies of Gallatin’s correspondence with Isaac Briggs, Robert Patterson, Andrew Ellicott, F. R. Hassler, John Garnett, the Right Reverend James Madison, Joshua Moore, and John Vaughan between 25 Mar. and 24 Sept. 1807 on surveying the coasts of the U.S. Printed in Commerce and Navigation, 1:828–39. JM forwarded the RC and enclosures to the Senate in his message of 4 Feb. 1811.
,1. On 20 Dec. 1810 the Senate had passed a resolution proposed by Samuel Dana of Connecticut directing JM to forward a statement of the proceedings made under the act of 10 Feb. 1807 “to provide for surveying the coasts of the United States” ( , 11th Cong., 3d sess., 27).
