We wrote thee by Capt. Necks wth thy Accot Current.1 it will be a Satisfaction to us to hear that it is got to hand & pro⟨v⟩es right. Inclosd we send the Sale of thy 12 Hds Tobacco ⅌ the Fauquier.2 we can truly say that no care has been wanting in us to make the most thereof. We hope by Capt. Esten or by Capt. Necks to be favourd wth a larger Share of thy Consignments—Our Market is rather heavy at present but ere long it is expected to take a more favourable turn—We are wth much esteem—Thy Assurd Friends3

LS, ViHi: Custis Papers. The letter was addressed to Daniel Parke Custis, John Parke Custis’s deceased father. GW changed the “Daniel” to “John” in the letter itself, and on 21 Oct. 1766 the Hanburys apologized for having used the wrong name.

2. GW wrote Hanbury on 20 Sept. 1765 that he was sending twelve hogsheads of John Parke Custis’s tobacco in the Fauquier.
3. On the reverse side there is this letter of 22 July from Hanbury addressed to Daniel Parke Custis: “The foregoing was intended by a Ship then up for Virginia but her Voyage is since alterd. we have now the pleasure to advise the arrival ⟨mutilated⟩ Capt. Esten. no care shall be wanting in us to make the ⟨mo⟩st of the 12 ⟨mutilated⟩ Hds Tobacco.” Capt. James Esten took letters dated 27 Mar. 1766 to Custis and GW.
