Enclosure: Joseph Priestley, The Doctrines of Heathen Philosophy, Compared with Those of Revelation (Northumberland, Pa., 1804; Sowerby, description begins E. Patrick Byrne (ca. 1741-1814) was one of Dublin’s leading printers and booksellers during the 1790s. His involvement with the Society of United Irishmen, however, led to his imprisonment in 1798 and eventual banishment. By 1801, Byrne had resumed his business in Philadelphia, specializing in the reprinting and sale of law books (Richard Cargill Cole, Irish Booksellers and English Writers, 1740-1800 [London, 1986], 182-90; James McGuire and James Quinn, eds., Dictionary of Irish Biography: From the Earliest Times to the Year 2002, 9 vols. [Cambridge, Eng., 2009], 2:221-2).
