1. The letters have not been found, although, presumably, their subject matter was similar to that described in Gerrit L. Dox to JM, 28 May 1816. Myndert M. Dox of Geneva, New York (1790–1830), brother of Gerrit L. Dox, served as a captain in the Thirteenth Regiment of Infantry, 1812–15 ( , 1:382; Daniel D. Tompkins to William Eustis, 25 Jan. 1812 [Hastings, Public Papers of Daniel D. Tompkins, 2:442]).
