John Burchan, the Young Gentleman recommended to Col. Hamilton by Thomas Lowrey,3 is to be found at Mr. Michael Roberts,4 No. 32. Hanover Square.

1. On January 3, 1793, Burchan was listed as a clerk in the office of the register of the Treasury Department (PAH description begins Harold C. Syrett, ed., The Papers of Alexander Hamilton (New York and London, 1961– ). description ends , XIII, 466).

2. This letter was presumably written at some date between September, 1789, and December, 1792.

3. Thomas Lowrey was marshal for the District of New Jersey from September 26, 1789, to January, 1802.

4. Roberts was a Philadelphia merchant.
