To Nathaniel Cutting

Mar. 20. 1793.

Th: Jefferson presents his compliments to Capt. Cutting, and informs him that the President counts on him in the matter spoken of. The article of money shall be arranged.

The matter spoken of: Cutting’s appointment as David Humphreys’s secretary for the latter’s mission to Algiers (see TJ to Humphreys, 21 Mch. 1793; TJ to Cutting, 31 Mch. 1793).

On 24 Jan. 1793 TJ had sent an invitation asking “the favor of Capt. Cutting’s company to dinner with a small party of friends, on Monday next, at half after three,” with postscript beneath date: “The favor of an answer is requested” (printed form in MiU-C; with date and blank spaces for recipient and day of the week completed by TJ; addressed: “Capt Cutting”).
