1. Marinus Willett (1740–1830), Revolutionary War veteran and former sheriff of New York City and County, served as mayor of New York from 1807 to 1811 and was defeated in his bid for the lieutenant governorship of the state in 1811.

2. On 14 Oct. 1812 Willett wrote to Gallatin to request that he pass on to JM Willett’s support for Bancker, whom he described as “a Counciler of law, of respectable connection of good moral charector Amiable disposition and well qualified to perform the duties of the office” (DLC; docketed by JM). JM later nominated Bancker to be judge advocate for the Third U.S. Military District effective 18 Mar. 1813 (Senate Exec.
