From Thomas Jefferson to Tench Coxe, 30 November 1790
To Tench Coxe
Nov. 30. 1790.
Th: Jefferson returns Mr. Cox many thanks for the several communications he has favored him with and which will be of great utility to him. Can he procure him the loan of one of the latest editions of Ld. Sheffeild’s book? As also Edward’s answer to it.
RC (CtY); addressed “Mr. Coxe Treasury office Chesnut street”; endorsed. Not recorded in SJL. Sheffield’s Observations on the commerce of the American states (see Nos. 3618, 3616) and Bryan Edwards’Thoughts on the late proceedings of Government respecting the Trade of the West India Islands with the United States (London, 1784) were the works that TJ desired. The latter was by a West Indian merchant and historian who argued for a free exchange in trade with the United States.
