MS (ViW: TC-JP); written in Perry’s hand on one side of a single sheet, with penciled question and check marks in left margin in an unidentified and possibly later hand; undated, but compiled after TJ indicated that this work was not yet complete in a 6 May 1813 letter to Martha Jefferson Randolph and before TJ listed this debt in a 10 Dec. 1813 account with Perry; endorsed on verso by Perry as “Bill Mr Jeffersons Work” and by TJ as “Perry Reuben. acct work at Pop. For.”; attached at some point to a separate sheet containing Account with Reuben Perry, [ca. 28 Nov. 1811].
surbase: a border or molding just above the lower paneling of a wainscoted room; a chair rail ().
Perry’s letter to TJ of 4 Mar. 1813, received six days later from Lynchburg, and TJ’s reply of 26 Mar. 1813 are both recorded in SJL, but neither has been found.
