I accept with gratefull feelings the recent mark of your friendship, and having taken the requisite steps for authorising my entering on the duties of my new office, I hereby resign the office of Secretary of the Department of War.—be pleased Sir to accept my most sincere thanks for the many obligations you have confered on me.
