Sgt. Ebenezer Wild of the 1st Massachusetts Regiment wrote in his journal on this date that “About 11 o’clk we were alarmed. The enemy came out as far as Swead’s ford. We turned out and had forty rounds delivered to each man; then grounded our arms, and were to turn out again at the firing of cannon from the park. We not being alarmed any more, our arms remained grounded on the parade all day.
