TJ had previously enlisted the carriage repair services of Jones & Kain. According to TJ’s financial records, on 4 Jan. 1803, he gave an order on John Barnes for $154 “for body & finishing phaeton, wheels to market waggon, & repairs of harness” (, 2:1048, 1089; Vol. 34:707, 708; Vol. 36:693).
