Yours of the 6th I have receiv’d, and Majr Groenendyck has returned to this post agreeable to Orders.1
Inclosed is a return of the men at this post, which is greatly short of the number intended;2 I have done every thing in my power to Expedite their Collecting, but they come in slow which makes me think I shall have but little, if any, more than half the number Ordered.
I cannot help mentioning that we have very little Ammunition, should be glad to know where to Apply in Case we should be Ordered to any post where we may likely want.3 I am Sir Your Excellencys Most Obedt Servant

The enclosed “State of the two Battalions of Militia, Ordered into Service under the Command of Silvanus Seely,” dated 10 Aug., listed the number of militiamen by rank: 1 colonel, 1 lieutenant colonel, 2 majors, 8 captains, 7 subalterns, 2 adjutants, 2 quartermasters, 20 sergeants, 15 corporals, 4 “Musick,” 338 privates fit for duty, 35 privates “On Duty,” and 8 privates sick (DLC:GW).
3. No reply from GW to Seely has been found.
