Jared MANSFIELD was the author of the Essays, Mathematical and Physicalmentioned in Abraham Baldwin’s letter to TJ of 29 Mch. and Bishop James Madison’s of 15 Apr. At the time, Mansfield was teaching at a school in New Haven, Connecticut. He was commissioned a captain of engineers on 3 May ( ; , 1:688).
