Dear Sir,

I would take the liberty to recommend to your attention & friendliness the bearer of this note Mr Cephus Shekell—He resided for Eight or ten years immediately in my neighbourhood & one of my nearest neighbours, and there never lived a more industrious, good manager—or a more worthy, honest character—

I hope you are well and enjoying all the pleasures of a happy and honorable retirement—

Osborn Sprigg (ca. 1741–1815) was a planter and resident of Prince Georges County, Maryland. His family was prominent politically, and he represented the county in the first five state revolutionary conventions, 1774–75, the state constitutional convention in 1776, the House of Delegates in 1777, and the state convention that ratified the federal constitution in 1788. Sprigg also served as a justice of the peace and tax commissioner (Edward C.
