William Garland Pendleton (1788–1839), attorney and public official, was probably a native of Amherst County. By 1810 he had moved to Richmond, where he served as register of the Virginia Land Office, 1814–23, as clerk of the local chancery court, 1828–31, and as one of the commissioners of the Superior Court of Law and Chancery in 1832. Pendleton was also proctor of the University of Virginia, 1832–36.
