Sir
By favr Mr Claxton I have the pleasure to hand you, the inclosed five post Notes—
the most eligible I could procure for the purpose of remittance—I decided Mr Peytons—on the supposition of their being more convenient—in passing.—their Notes I find are quite Currt. at Richmond Mr Davison tells me—he makes Constant remittance on them to Mr Heath—

John Davidson (Davison) of Washington was an agent of Henry Heth (Heath); George Jefferson to TJ, 7 Sep.
TJ enclosed the three notes for Craven Peyton in his letter to Peyton of 8 Oct. TJ’s letters to David Higginbotham and John Watson on 8 Oct., noted in SJL, have not been found. In his financial memoranda under that date, TJ recorded the payment to Higginbotham as “to David Higginbotham for Brown Rives & co.” (, 2:1055). On TJ’s debt to Watson, see TJ to Watson, 2 June.
