8. George Scholtze (1711–1779), first Schwenkfelder to come to America, 1731; merchant in Philadelphia. With his brother David he acquired 260 acres of land in Upper Hanover Township, Pa., 1736; he moved to Frederick Co., Md., before 1757. David Scholtze (1717–1797) was a surveyor, scrivener, “bush lawyer,” and farmer in Upper Hanover Township. Samuel K. George Scholtze is charged in BF’s Ledger D with 3s. for a pocket compass, and BF has closed the account with the notation, “Settled with Mr. Scholtz and received of his Brother £2 6s. 1d. Ballance being in full to the 14th September 1745.”
