Sir,

A number of Boatswains, Gunners, Carpenters and Sailmakers are wanting for the Squadron now preparing for the Mediterranean. I therefore enclose 20 blank warrants to which I have the honor to request your Signature.—

The squadron now preparing for the mediterranean, to be commanded by Edward Preble, included the frigates Constitution and Philadelphia, the brigs Siren and Argus, and the schooners Nautilus and Vixen. They would be joined by the schooner Enterprize, which was still in the Mediterranean (NDBW description begins Dudley W. Knox, ed., Naval Documents Related to the United States Wars with the Barbary Powers, Washington, D.C., 1939–44, 6 vols. and Register of Officer Personnel and Ships’ Data, 1801–1807, Washington, D.C., 1945 description ends , 2:411, 457).
