Mr. Ross Respects wait on his Excelly. the Minister plenipoty of the United American States—and send some American papers received today via Holland, by a Vessel arrived from Philada.

Mr: Ross has got several letters from America, but none later then 24 March, and not a single Sylable of News from any of his friends—6

6Ross was apparently more conscientious in forwarding items than was BF. Among BF’s papers at the APS is an April 29 letter addressed to him for forwarding to Ross. Its author, a Mr. Carmichael, offered to sell masts, cables, sails, and rigging for a ship Ross had under construction. This Carmichael is probably the dealer in provisions described in Butterfield, John Adams Diary, II, 359–60.
