I nominate Aaron Vale of New York to be commercial agent of the United States at L’orient in France.

Meriwether Lewis delivered this nomination to the Senate on 14 Feb. and the next day it was read and ordered to lie for consideration. A week later it was referred to Uriah Tracy, Robert Wright, and Dwight Foster, the same committee considering eight of TJ’s nominations of 2 Feb. The Senate approved the appointment of Vail (vale) on 1 Mch. (JEP description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States…to the Termination of the Nineteenth Congress, Washington, D.C., 1828, 3 vols. description ends , 1:442–3, 445, 446).
