I am again Solicited to write you in favor of the bearer Mr Brockenbrough,1 am in great hopes his Modest Behavour will recommend him. his Circumstance’s are such, that nothing but a View of Serving his Country could induce him to this undertaking. your Protection so far as is right & Justifiable will Extremely oblige Dear Sir yr most obedt Humble Servt

1. See Champe’s first letter of this date as well as the letter from William Brockenbrough to GW, 29 Sept. 1755. Champe was requested to write GW this time by William Jordan (d. 1757) of Richmond County. In a letter dated 29 Sept., Jordan wrote: “As Capt: Brockenbroughs Confusion at parting with his Son prevented his writing You have this to request your Interest in favour of this young Adventurer (and so from the most truly noble & laudable Motives) with Col: Washington.” This enclosure is with the Sprague transcript of Champe’s letter at DLC.
