From James Madison to Daniel Parker, [ca. 13 September] 1813
To Daniel Parker
[ca. 13 September 1813]
The reasons given by Govr. M. in favor of accepting his organization of the Militia, seem sufficient to make a safe exception to the rule from which it departs.1
RC (PHi: Daniel Parker Papers). Unsigned. Undated; docketed by Parker, “Informed Govr. M. Sept 15th.” Conjectural date assigned on the basis of the docket.
1. JM referred to David B. Mitchell’s letter to John Armstrong of 31 Aug. 1813, which has not been found but is mentioned in Parker’s letter to Mitchell of 15 Sept. 1813. Parker stated that “in the absence of the Secretary of War” he had submitted Mitchell’s letter to JM, who approved of the governor’s decisions (DNA: RG 107, LSMA).
