A sentence from this unlocated letter is printed in the Pennsylvania Assembly’s reply, Sept. 29, 1755, to Governor Morris’ charge, September 24, that the Assembly had done little to support Braddock’s expedition (below, p. 207).

1. William Shirley, Jr. (1721–1755), eldest son of Governor Shirley (see above, III, 319 n), was military secretary to General Braddock, with whom he was killed on the advance to Fort Duquesne. Col. Soc. Mass. Pubs., VIII (1902–04), 244 n.
