Charleston, S.C., 3 Sept. 1792. Resigns as U.S. attorney for the District of South Carolina because his “business and avocations” do not permit him enough time to perform properly the duties of this office.1

1. John Julius Pringle (1753–1843), a Charleston lawyer, was appointed the U.S. district attorney for South Carolina in September 1789 (see GW to the U.S. Senate, 24 Sept. 1789). He became the state attorney general in December 1792 and served in that position until 1808.
