N. York May 5th 1785.

Dear Sir

Mr King one of the delegates of Massachusets bay, & a gentleman of great worth has particularly requested me to introduce to you, Mr Prince & Mr Darby, the former a Clergyman of amiable character, the latter the son of a respectable Merchant: They are travelling to Virginia & have a desire of calling at Mount Vernon.1

I therefore hope you will excuse the liberty I take in presenting them to you. I have the honor to be with the highest respt Yr Affect. friend & Most Obedt Servt

1Rufus King (1755–1827), in 1787 one of the delegates to the Federal Convention from Massachusetts, was a member of Congress for Massachusetts from 1784 to 1786. John Prince (1751–1836) was minister of the First Church in Salem, Massachusetts. “Mr. Darby” was probably a son of Elias Hasket Derby, a prominent merchant in Salem.
