Robert B. Sthreshly (d. 1835), merchant in Port Royal, Caroline County, owned ten slaves in 1810. He expressed an interest in purchasing William Short’s Indian Camp plantation in 1811–12 but settled instead on a property on Moore’s Creek about one mile west of Monticello. In 1816 Sthreshly sold this possession to William D. Meriwether and moved to Kentucky. He acquired land near the town of Henderson in the winter of 1816–17 and was still living there in 1830. On this day TJ recorded the purchase from Sthreshly of “100. Bar. corn @ 20/ paiable 160. days after delivery.” On 2 May 1814 he drew on Gibson & Jefferson “in favr. of John Perry assee. of Rob. B. Sthreshly for corn bought ante Oct. 13. for 230.D. paiable the 10th. inst.” (MB description begins James A. Bear Jr. and Lucia C.
