Th: Jefferson presents his friendly respects to mr Hay and incloses him an order on Gibson & Jefferson for 50.D. for his services in the suit of Scott against him. he hopes it will be forced on at the first calling that he may be rid of the obligation which the purchaser required of him. he salutes mr Hay with friendship & respect.

The obligation required by Samuel J. Harrison, the purchaser of TJ’s Ivy Creek property, entitled him to a cash payment or a portion of TJ’s Poplar Forest tract if Samuel Scott’s claim to the former tract was sustained (Harrison to TJ, 13 Mar., 27 Apr. 1812; TJ to Harrison, 2 Apr. 1812; Mortgage of Campbell County Land to Samuel J. Harrison, 18 May 1812).
