To George Washington

[Philadelphia] December 5, 1793. States “that he has reason to believe General Stewart1 has removed the obstacles to his appointment.”2

2Stewart’s appointment as “Surveyor of the district of Philadelphia, and Inspector of the Revenue for the port of Philadelphia” was confirmed by the Senate on December 10, 1793 (Executive Journal, I description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate (Washington, 1828), I. description ends , 140–41).
