Most worthy Sir,
By a late vote of the Amer. Academy of Arts & Sciences, I am directed to present you the first volume, with the first part of the second volume, of its Memoirs; which you are requested to accept, as a faint expression of that unqualified respect, which is indelibly impressed on the hearts of its members;1 but on none more deeply, than on that of your most devoted, and very humble servant,

1. Volume one of the Memoirs of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, which ran to 1783, was published at Boston in 1785. Part one of the second volume was printed in 1793. Both volumes were in GW’s library at his death (, 549).
GW replied to Pearson on 16 Feb.: “Your letter of the 30th ulto, accompanied by the first vol[um]e of the Memoirs of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, with the first part of the second vol: came duly to hand.
