Dear Sir
I forwarded by Post the letter mentiond in the annexed from Mr Parish, under a Blank Cover to your address (being then hurried). You will judge wether the Contents of the annexed will be any gratification to Mr La Fayette to whom I pray my Compts.1 Mrs Morris & Maria desire their best & affectionate regards to Mrs Washington & Miss Custis. We were happy in the Company of Master Custis yesterday He is astonishingly improved and is a manly fine Fellow. I pray to be also presented to Mrs Washington & Miss Custis and that you will ever consider me as most sincerely attached to you & yours

1. John Parish on 2 Dec. 1796 wrote to Morris from Hamburg, where he was vice-consul: “I enclose you a letter for young La Fayette which was sent to my care by his aunt Madame de Tassé and who is very anxious that it should come to hand; We suppose he is with you as it seems the President has called him near him. The fate of his unhappy Parents has not yet changed for the better; they are still encarcerated at Olmülz—I had a letter from Madame La Fayette some weeks ago—She had received regularly the money I sent them, and still continue to send from time to time . . .” (DLC:GW). George Washington Lafayette, who had accompanied GW from Philadelphia, at this time was at Mount Vernon and remained there until October when he sailed for France.
