Sir,
The President of the United States having occasion for Mitchell’s map,1 which hangs in one of the offices of Congress, and is supposed to be in your care, requests that you will be so good as to send it by the Servant, who delivers this note. I am Sir, Your obedient Servant

This letter is unaddressed, but may have been directed to Roger Alden, former assistant secretary to the Confederation Congress who had been appointed by GW to a clerkship in the State Department.
