Dear Sir
The certificate for 1000. acres of land in the name of John Peyton which you inclosed me shall be forwarded to the war office by this day’s post. without some authentic designation however of the person to whom the patent is to be granted it will of course come out in the name of John Peyton. I mention this, that if you wish it otherwise, you may furnish me with the supplementary papers requisite. accept my best wishes & respects.

YOU INCLOSED ME: a letter from Craven Peyton to TJ of 16 Aug., recorded in SJL as received the same day, has not been found.
FORWARDED TO THE WAR OFFICE: on 16 Aug., TJ requested that Dearborn “put the inclosed paper into the proper channel to be acted on, it being the case of a friend whom Th:J. wishes to serve without knowing to whom the certificate should be committed immediately” (PrC in DLC; recorded in SJL with notation “Craven Peyton’s certif.”).
