On further enquiry & consideration I find it will be better to employ what is called here foundation stone, rather than brick: consequently that little brick will be wanting. your advertisement therefore may be1 that there will be wanting large quantities of freestone, foundation stone & lime, and some brick. be so good as to mention this to mr Latrobe should he come.

Munroe’s advertisement, dated 8 Mch., called for proposals to supply “large quantities” of freestone, foundation stone, lime, sand, “and some bricks” for public use in Washington, D.C. Proposals would be received until 4 Apr. (National Intelligencer, 9 Mch. 1803; Washington Federalist, 9 Mch. 1803).
